Mercury and Air Toxics Standards
On Dec. 16, 2011, under authority of the Clean Air Act (CAA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS). These standards set national limits on mercury and other potentially toxic emissions from fossil fuel-burning power plants across the United States. NGS is one of about 600 coal-fired power plants regulated under this rule.
NGS implemented certain aspects of the MATS rule in 2015 and will begin operation of a mercury control system on April 16, 2016.
